Hansen Wins Multi’s at Ithaca, Three Yellowjackets in NCAA Top-40

ITHACA, NY – Five multi-event competitors from the University of Rochester men's track and field team wrapped up their first attempt at the heptathlon this season, competing on day two of the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational at Glazer Arena.
 
Sophomore Emmett Hansen posted the victory in the seven-event heptathlon, scoring a career-best 4,908 points overall. His mark is the new number ten mark so far this season in NCAA Division III. On Sunday, Hansen finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.09 seconds, fourth in the pole vault clearing 4.30 meters and second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:44.89. Hansen ended up setting new personal-best marks in six of the seven events over the weekend.
 
URochester's second finisher on the day was first-year Brant Nicholls who secured sixth place, scoring 4,344 points. The rookie's score is top-40 in NCAA Division III and featured two top-6 results on Sunday. Nicholls ended second in the pole vault with a 4.40 meter height and was sixth in the hurdles, sprinting to a time of 9.11 seconds. He ended 12th in the 1000 meters, posting a time of 3:09.85.
 
Teammate Ashton Tokarski was right behind in seventh place, scoring 4,285 points, also ranking inside Division III's top-40 scores so far this season. The junior cleared 3.70 meters in the pole vault, ranking sixth and establishing a new personal-best. He also was tenth in the 1000 meters (3:06.39) and 14th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.94 seconds).
 
Junior Quillan Shimp had two solid finishes on day two, winning the 1000 meters and ranking third in the 60 meter hurdles, but unfortunately no-heighted in the pole vault to hurt his overall score. Shimp ended in 11th overall with 3,925 points. In the 1000 meters, Shimp won by four seconds, posting a time of 2:40.93, while his 60 meter hurdle time was 8.68 seconds.
 
The Yellowjackets' last individual competing in the multi was senior Jack Maness who ended 16th overall with a 3,069 points. Maness was 14th in the 1000 meters (3:15.46), 15th in the 60 meter hurdles (10.58 seconds) and did not record a mark in the pole vault.
 
URochester returns to action next in a dual meet right back at Ithaca College next Saturday starting at noon.
