PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester men's and women's track & field teams got their split-squad weekend started with night one of Nazareth University's D3 Elite Meet on Friday evening at the Golisano Training Center.
URochester's distance runners opened the evening with the 5,000 meters, with
Sam Cohen leading the way with an eighth-place result and 15:36.57 time.
Gus Smith finished right outside the top 10 with a new, personal-best time of 15:40.85, while
Adriana Ochoa led the women with a 12th-place finish and an indoor PR of 20:07.72.
Next up in the 60-meter hurdles prelims,
Owen Alexander was the men's top finisher, placing 10th with a time of 8.79 seconds, while
Zoe Noble and
Julie Durham earned top-20 results for the women, placing 18th and 19th, respectively. Noble clocked in at 10.55 seconds, a personal-best, while Durham ran in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.77 seconds.
Rochester added two more top-15 finishes in the 60-meter prelims, with
Toni Adewakun earning a team-best 11th-place finish with an 8.62-second time, while
Diego De Los Santos led the men with a 13th-place result, crossing the finish line in 7.25 seconds.
Alex Hermann earned the 'Jackets' best finish in the field events, taking sixth in the weight throw with a 15.49m toss. While
Jack Maness paced Rochester in the long jump with a 5.75m leap, good for 22nd.
In the field events on the women's side,
Anna Johnson took seventh in the long jump with a 5.17m leap, an indoor personal best, while
Raelen Green joined Johnson in the top 10 with a 10th-place, 4.91m jump.
Maddie Unruh was URochester's top finisher in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.72m, while
Cassidy Romano took 17th in the weight throw with an 11.87m hurl.
The Yellowjackets will be back on the track in Pittsford, NY, for day two of the D3 Elite Meet on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10:00 a.m., while Rochester's track & field teams will also be in action in New York, NY, at the NYU DIII Invitational, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
