Reeth Leads Rochester on Day One of All-Atlantic Championships

NEW YORK, NY – The University of Rochester men's track & field team took to the track in their final meet before the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, competing at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at The Armory.
 
Cody Reeth turned in Rochester's best finish of the day, setting a new personal-best mark in the pole vault. Reeth achieved a height of 4.78m, a new personal-best and a top-40 height on the Division III indoor qualifying list. Brant Nicholls also competed for URochester in the pole vault, tying for 18th with a height of 4.33m.
 
In the long jump, Emmett Hansen placed 22nd with a 6.46m leap, while Aadit Jain took 24th with a 6.38m jump.
 
On the track, Elijah VanHoover got Rochester's day started with the 60-meter hurdle prelims, placing 22nd with a time of 8.485 seconds. Then in the 60-meter prelims, Barack Abdallah finished 17th, clocking in with a time of 6.992 seconds.
 
Through four events of the heptathlon, Ashton Tokarski sits in second place, while Quillan Shimp is in 11th. Tokarski had a stellar opening day in the seven-event competition, placing second in three of four events. Tokarski got the heptathlon started with a new personal-best time in the 60 meters, 7.17 seconds, good for second, and then placed second in the long jump with a 6.71m leap.
 
After finishing seventh in the shot put (10.62m), Tokarski then added another second-place finish in the high jump, successfully making it over 1.84m.
 
Shimp's best finish of the day came in the 60 meters, where the junior crossed the finish line in 10th with a time of 7.72 seconds to earn 643 points. Overall, Shimp is in 11th with 2,097 points, while Tokarski sits in third with 2,794 points, 156 points shy of first in the 11-competitor heptathlon field.
 
URochester's 4x400-meter relay wrapped up the 'Jackets' day with an 11th-place finish, as Evan Bryant, Brighton Lumia, Greg Palma and VanHoover combined for a time of 3:20.69.
 
With six events complete, the Yellowjackets sit in a tie for 19th place with Misericordia with three team points. SUNY Geneseo leads the 29 teams that have earned a point in first place with 29 points, with Rowan (28 points) and Ursinus (20 points) rounding out the top three teams.
 
Day two of the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships will get started at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 inside The Armory.
