BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team saw three Yellowjackets finish in the top eight of the decathlon, and another two finish in the top 10 on the final day of the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational on Monday afternoon inside Shriver Stadium.
All five multi-athletes hit the All-Atlantic Region qualifying mark in the decathlon, scoring more than 5,100 points in the 10-event competition.
Emmett Hansen was the 'Jackets' top finisher, coming in second place with a score of 6,484 points, a new personal-best performance and the 12th-best decathlon score in NCAA Division III so far this season. On day two of the decathlon, Hansen set personal bests in three events, the discus, pole vault and 110-meter hurdles (6th, 16.49s), and notched his best finishes in the javelin (2nd, 50.71m) and the discus (2nd, 31.00m).
Ashton Tokarski was URochester's next-highest finisher, placing second with 5,638 points, a new PR. Tokarski notched a PR with his best finish on day two in the discus throw, with his 29.70m toss good for third place and 562 points, while the junior also placed in the top 10 in the pole vault with a height of 3.80m, good for seventh and 562 points.
Quillan Shimp rounded out the three Yellowjackets in the top eight with his eighth-place finish and 5,483-point score. Shimp wrapped up the decathlon with a first-place finish and 4:28.80 time in the 1,500 meters, and added personal-best marks in both the discus (11th, 25.60m) and javelin (15th, 31.57m), as well as a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (16.46s).
Brant Nicholls tallied 5,415 points over the two-day competition to place ninth, hitting All-Atlantic Region Qualifying marks in both the decathlon and the pole vault, tallying his best finish in the event with a height of 4.60m, good for second. Nicholls also added a third-place finish on day in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 16.19 seconds.
Nicholls, Tokarski and Shimp's decathlon scores also placed on the NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List, with Tokarski's ranking 41st, Shimp's coming in at 46th, and Nicholls coming in at #50.
Jack Maness wrapped up Rochester's five multi-athletes with a 10th-place finish and 5,160-point score, earning top-five finishes on day two in the javelin toss (4th, 40.43m) and the pole vault (5th, 4.20m).
The Yellowjackets will return to the track on Sunday, April 19, when they host the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational inside Fauver Stadium, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
