Sophomore
Emmett Hansen, fresh of a victory in the decathlon at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships this week, has earned a spot at the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in that event.
Â
The national meet will take place from May 21-23, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse serving as the host institution. In outdoor track and field, the top-22 individuals and top-16 relays on the Division III performance list are selected to the meet.
Â
Hansen qualified with his regional title winning score of 6,596 points, which establishes a new personal-best score, and seeds him 18th ahead of the championship. He finished in the top-2 at the AARTFC meet in six of the ten events in the decathlon and set four new personal-best's, coming in the 1500 meters, 400 meters, high jump and long jump.
Â
The sophomore's NCAA qualification is his second overall nationals appearance, and first in outdoor track and field. Hansen previously qualified for NCAA's during the indoor season earlier in 2026, finishing the heptathlon in 16th place, securing All-American honors.
Â
Overall, URochester has had 11 prior qualifiers in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, ranking as the fourth most among any event in program history. In recent years, four decathletes have qualified in the last four years prior to 2026.
Â
Next week, the decathlon will take place on Thursday and Friday, on days one and two at the NCAA Championships. Action begins with the 100 meters at 10 a.m. on May 21st. The other events on day one include the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters.
Â
On day two, Friday, May 22, Hansen will compete in the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters, which wraps up the decathlon at approximately 5:45 p.m.
