Emmett Hansen turned in a solid effort over the opening five events of the decathlon competition at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Thursday afternoon.
Hansen scored a total of 3,326 points on day one, sitting in 18th place overall through five events in the ten-event decathlon.
The sophomore started out the day with an 11.58 second sprint in the 100 meters, scoring 763 points, his highest-scoring event of the afternoon, ranking 17th in the field.
An 11th place result in the long jump came from a best leap of 6.64 meters, adding 729 points to his total.
The shot put was next, with Hansen recording a best throw of 9.52, ending 21st overall while scoring 457 points.
Hansen's best finish of the day was in the high jump, where he was fifth overall in the decathlon field, clearing 1.83 meters. That mark added 653 points to his score.
Day one ended with the 400 meters, with Hansen scoring 751 points after finishing in 51.41 seconds, 15th fastest amongst the multi-event athletes.
The second day of the decathlon on Friday features the final five events of the competition. Those events are the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters. The hurdles start at 11 am, with the entirety of the competition wrapping up at approximately 6:45 pm on Friday.
