GENEVA, NY – Sophomore Hailey Kornbluth started her 2026-27 season out strong, earning the 'B' flight singles title at the 2026 Mary Hosking Invitational on Sunday afternoon at William Smith College.
 
Kornbluth posted a 4-0 record overall in singles play on the weekend, winning twice on Sunday to claim her title. In the semifinals, the sophomore defeated Ellie Fritz of St. Lawrence in a close match, winning by a 9-7 score.
 
During the finals, Kornbluth was matched up with Callie Perrin of St. Lawrence and took care of business with an 8-3 triumph. Last season, Kornbluth competed in the 'C' flight at this event and finished as a semifinalist.
 
Elsewhere in singles action, Rochester had two athletes still alive in the main draw of action in the 'C' flight on Sunday. Lilly Caldwell defeated William Smith's Lucy Hudson 8-6 in the semifinals, earning a trip to the championship match.
 
St. Lawrence's Sarah Oldland ended up victorious in the final, eliminating her second straight UR player from the bracket with an 8-4 win. Oldland also defeated UR first-year Aiza Ahmed 8-1 in the other semifinal match.
 
The Yellowjackets also competed with two teams in the semifinals of the 'A' flight doubles bracket, with both dropping their first match on Sunday to be eliminated.
 
Lauren Kallas and Noel Allen were defeated 8-5 by Yvette Karera and Ariane Karera of St. Lawrence, while Katie Yang and Hayley Menon fell by an 8-1 score to Alys Pop and Ava Casell of Ithaca.
