WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The University of Rochester golf team, ranked #17 in the preseason Division III Coaches Poll, got its 2026-27 stroke play tournament season underway on Monday, competing at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview at Kingsmill Resort.
The Yellowjackets shot two solids rounds, shooting 289 and 290 during the opening 36 holes and sit in a tie for 16th place among 18 of the top Division III golf schools.
Overall, 17 of the 18 schools in the event are among the top-19 teams in the preseason coaches poll, with only host Christopher Newport not being ranked among the entrants.
Rochester's two round total is 579, with UR sitting just seven strokes out of eighth place. The overall leader is 2nd-ranked Huntingdon College who is eight strokes ahead with a team score of 543 after 36 holes. #9 Keyon (551) sits second and #4 Illinois Wesleyan (556) ranks third after the opening day.
Leading the way on Monday was sophomore
Anderson Palm who carded rounds of 4-under, 67 and even par 71 on the par-71, 6,667-yard layout at the Kingsmill Resort's River Course. Palm's opening round of 67 smashed his career-low, breaking his previous best of 71 by four strokes. The sophomore's opening round scorecard saw him birdie seven holes, to go with three bogeys to reach four under.
In round two, Palm was steady, notching 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey. Overall, the 4-under score of 138 has Palm ranked tied for 13th in the overall field of 90 golfers.
Ranking second among URochester golfers was sophomore
Henry Zhong who sits in a tie for 56th place at 4-over, 146 over the opening 36 holes. Zhong shot a 4-over round of 75 in the first round, before signing for and even-par scorecard in the afternoon wave. During round two, Zhong notched three birdies in a five-hole span from hole five through nine.
Junior co-captain
Galen Fowles is one stroke behind Zhong in a tie for 59th place at 5-over, 147 during Monday's action. Fowles fired six birdies in his opening round, but also notched four holes over par and ended with a 3-over 74. During round two, the newly-minted UAA Golf Athlete of the Week carded a 2-over par round of 73.
Arjun Aujla, URochester's other co-captain, ranked tied for 66th after 36 holes, sitting at a combined score of 148 (6-over). The senior carded a 2-over par round of 73 in the morning, before shooting 4-over (75) in the afternoon 18 holes. He recorded five total birdies on the day.
First-year
Haden Wang was UR's final golfer, with his scores of 81 and 80 not counting towards the Yellowjackets team score. Wang sits in 90th place.
The third and final round of the Division III Preview is set for Tuesday morning, with the field taking part in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
