SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Rochester is in second place in both the men's and women's Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships being conducted in the Capitol District.
In the men's scoring, the Yellowjackets have 250 points. RPI leads with 289 and Union is third with 241. Seven teams are competing. In the women's scoring, the Yellowjackets have 269.5. Union leads with 293, and RPI is third with 174.
Five events were completed on Friday in the swimming competition and one diving event was finished.
The women had an outright relay champion, winning the 400 medley relay in 4:04.32. The swimmers were Karen Meess, Jennifer Chung, Stephanie Bolin, and Dayna Jacob. Rochester was third in the 200 freestyle relay to launch the meet. The quartet of Val Atwood, Kaitlin Holden, Jacob, and Cailee Caldwell was timed in 1:42.99.
Corinne Lampe and Atwood had the best individual finishes. They were each third. Lampe was third in the 500 free (5:15.99) with Farrell Cooke sixth (5:22.70). Atwood got to the wall in 2:16.84 in the 200 IM. Meess swam a 2:17.77 in the same race. Jacob seventh individually int he 50 free (0:25.65).
On the men's side, Sam Wilshire won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.26. Kevin Howard was fourth (2:03.20). Adam Bossert was second (0:22.24) and Alex King third (0:22.27) in the 50 free. Evan Jones was second (4:54.41) and Christian Vu fifth (4:57.47) in the 500 free.
Both men's relays finished in the top three. The 200 free relay was third in 1:30.47 (Mike Ricci, King, Graham Bowman,Vu). The 400 medley relay was second (Howard, Bossert, WIlshire, Vu) in 3:34.92.
Sara Spielman had the best individual finish for Rochester on the one meter board. She totaled 326.90 points and finished second. Megan Braun was fourth (301.70) and Becca Baer was sixth (288.65).
The men's three-meter diving showed Zach Howard in seventh place (275.25) and Ethan Siegler eighth (213.55).
There are two sessions scheduled for Saturday.
