CHICAGO – The University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team saw more success in the pool on day three of the University Athletic Association conference championships, with nine swimmers or divers competing in the finals heats on Friday evening at UChicago's Ratner Athletic Center.

Senior Max McClung posted the best individual result of the meet so far for the Yellowjackets, swimming to a ninth-place finish in the 100 butterfly to open things on Friday. McClung's time was 48.62 seconds in the final, after the senior was seeded ninth after the morning preliminary heats (49.06 seconds).

McClung added another solid finish later on in the day, placing 11th in the 'B' final of the 100 backstroke, swimming 49.51 seconds in the evening session. He matched his seed placement from the morning, where he was 11th in 49.83 seconds.

In the 1-meter diving event, URochester's two entries finished within one spot of one another, as Max Wozinski finished 12th and teammate Brendan Habert ended 13th. Wozinski scored 342.95 points in the consolation final, while Habert scored 334.30 points for his set list.

To close the night, the 200 medley relay squad of Sebastian Gans, Max Gjevre, Ben Friedberg and Nate Attwell ended in a tie for seventh place in that event, touching the wall in 1:35.39. The 'B' relay was seventh in its race as well, with Tommy Zeliph, Jayden Proctor, Patrick Li and Brandon Weaver ending with a time of 1:40.19.

During the 400 individual medley, both URochester swimmers that reached the finals cracked the top-10 in program history in that event. First-year Matthew Spence ended 21st overall in 4:09.57 during the finals, while teammate Ryan Bowering ended 24th in 4:12.55. Spence's time is now #4 on the 'Jackets all-time list, while Bowering's prelim swim of 4:12.01 is number seven.

Gjevre was the top-finishing Yellowjacket swimmer in the 100 breaststroke, posting a career-best time of 57.82 seconds in the final, sixth all-time at UR. Proctor also swam in the evening finals, finishing 24th overall in 1:02.15.

URochester's other finals swimmer on Friday was Gans in the 100 backstroke. The rookie swimmer ended in 22nd place, swimming 51.67 seconds in the 'C' final. That time now ranks him fourth on the Yellowjacket all-time list.

Despite not making the finals, Attwell was the Yellowjackets top-finisher in the 200 freestyle and now holds a top-10 time, ranking ninth after his swim of 1:43.17 netted him 32nd place overall.

After three days of competition, the Yellowjackets sit in seventh place among the eight schools. The fourth and final day of the meet starts on Saturday morning at 10 am central time, with 6 pm evening finals wrapping things up at the conference championships.
