5/10/2026 10:10:00 AM

The 2025-26 winner of the University of Rochester Louis Alexander Alumni Award is Max McClung of the URochester men's swimming and diving program. He was presented the award at the annual University of Rochester Department of Athletics and Recreation Awards Banquet on Monday, May 4.

This award is presented to a male member of the senior class who has made an outstanding contribution to the life of the College through his significant achievements in athletics and general student activities; and whose character and leadership qualities have been a wholesome influence on his fellow students.

McClung was a record-breaker through each of his four years at the University, setting multiple team records in the pool in every season. He is a 3-time URochester men's swimming and diving team MVP and was the top-point scorer on the Yellowjackets four years in a row.

In the national rankings, McClung ranked within the top-100 swimmers in Division III a total of eight times throughout his career, peaking at #33 during his senior campaign in the 100 butterfly event.

The Sleepy Hollow, New York native sees his name littered across the University of Rochester record books. Overall, he holds four individual and four relay school records, while posting 19 other top-10 times in school history across individual or relay events. In 2025-26, he broke one of the teams longest-standing records, the 200 freestyle, eclipsing the mark set by John-Eric Andersson back in 1995, with Andersson being the last Yellowjacket swimmer to take home the Alexander Award. McClung also broke the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly record for the fourth consecutive season this year.

In addition to his athletic achievements, McClung earned several Dean's List accolades at the University and was a Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar-Athlete as a senior. He received Academic All-District and UAA All-Academic accolades as well, honoring his performance in the classroom. He will graduate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University.

Louis Alexander coached basketball and baseball at Rochester, winning nearly 400 games. He served as Chairman of the Department of Physical Education and Director of Athletics. He was inducted into the Athletics & Recreation Hall of Fame on September 25, 1992 and the Palestra was dedicated in his name on December 6, 1968.
