Friedberg broke a nine-year-old school record in the 50 freestyle

Friedberg’s Record Day Highlights Day Two at UAAs

CHICAGO, IL – University of Rochester senior Ben Friedberg helped the Yellowjackets break their second record in as many days on day two of the 2025-26 University Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Chicago inside the Ratner Athletic Center.
 
Friedberg broke the program record in the 50-yard freestyle in the morning prelims, the second 'Jacket to shatter a program record in as many days. Friedberg clocked in at 20.60 seconds in the preliminary heat, breaking the previous record of 20.62 seconds set by Gunnar Zemering back in Feb. 2016.
 
Friedberg's time was good for 11th in the 50 freestyle prelims, earning the senior a spot in the evening's 'B' final, where he finished 15th with a time of 20.80 seconds.
 
Friedberg also swam on Rochester's 200-yard freestyle 'A' relay in the evening's finals, getting the evening started for URochester alongside Sebastian Gans, Connor Kann and Max McClung. Rochester's 'A' relay clocked in at 1:23.72 in the 200-freestyle relay, good for seventh overall and the third-fastest 200-freestyle relay time in program record.
 
While UR 'B' relay of Venden Berge, Brandon Weaver, Jayden Proctor and Demo Hong placed 15th, combining for a time of 1:28.53.
 
Then, to wrap up the evening's events, Rochester's 'A' and 'B' 400-medley relays finished seventh and 15th again. Gans, Max Gjevre, McClung and Kann swam the Yellowjackets' 'A' relay, touching the wall in 3:24.89, the fifth-fastest 400-medley time in program history, while the 'B' relay of Berge, Proctor, Patrick Li and Nate Attwell came in 15th with a time of 3:35.24.
 
Attwell was also Rochester's top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle in the morning prelims, swimming the seventh-fastest time in program history, 4:41.60, good for 25th, while Matthew Spence joined the junior in the top 30 with a 30th-place finish and 4:44.21 time.
 
In the 200 IM, Ryan Bowering paced the Yellowjackets with a 40th-place result in the prelims, clocking in with a time of 1:57.50.
 
Through 14 events on the men's side, the Yellowjackets sit in seventh place in the eight-team field with 253 points, just over 50 points behind Case Western Reserve in sixth. Emory holds the top spot with 626.5 points, with NYU and Chicago rounding out the top three teams so far with 590 and 554.5 points, respectively.
 
The Yellowjackets will be back in the pool on Friday, Feb. 12, for day three of the 2026 UAA Swimming & Diving Championships, kicking things off with the 100-yard butterfly prelims at 10:00 a.m. CT at the Ratner Athletic Center in Chicago, IL.
