Cardinals Repeat As Courage Bowl Champions

St. John Fisher quarterback Ryan Kramer threw for four touchdowns - three in the first half - as the Cardinals defeated Rochester, 52-3, in Courage Bowl VII at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester.

The Yellowjackets (1-1) had trouble getting the offense in sync, rushing for a net of 44 yards and passing for 107 more, totaling 151. St. John Fisher rushed for 238 yards and threw for 147.

Linebackers Brendan Pidgeon, Tony Ortega, and Zach Cicero were the top Yellowjacket tacklers. Pidgeon had 15 stops (eight primary). Ortega had 13 tackles ((eight primary) and Cicero was in on 10 tackles (five primary).  Rochester had five tackles for loss (Cicero had 2.5, Chris Bickford 1.5, and Spencer Miller a six-yard sack).

Bickford forced a fumble on Fisher's third possession of the game and it was recovered by Canaan Webb. Seven plays later, Alex Antonucci kicked a 24-yard field goal, his second of the season. That cut the margin to 7-3.

The first Fisher touchdown drive was aided by a roughing the kicker penalty. Fisher drove from its town 35 to the 46. Kramer ran for one yard. Bill Campi stacked up FuQuan Borum for no gain, and Miller broke through to sack Kramer for a six-yard loss. That set up 4-15 from the Cardinal 41. Ryan Sweet just got the punt away, but the Yellowjackets were flagged for running into him. The 15-yard foul put the ball on the UR44. Seven plays later, Kramer found Ryan Schmidt for a nine-yard TD and Chad Monheim kicked the PAT.

Kramer and Schmidt hooked up two more times in the first half, 15 yards and 19 yards. The Cardinals led, 28-3 at the break.

Braezen Subick completed 11 of 19 passes for 90 yards with one interception. He was sacked once. Thomas Hayes caught five passes for 50 yards and Garrett Kesel had three catches for 27. Seven receivers caught balls for the Yellowjackets.
