Ohio Wesleyan University upended Otterbein University 66-59 in the opening game of the UR/Holiday Inn Airport Thanksgiving Invitational on Saturday night.
The Battling Bishops (3-0) were led by Reuel Rogers who poured in 21 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. Marshall Morris also chipped in 15 points and had seven boards while Taylor Rieger had 11 points and three steals.
Otterbein (1-2) was paced by Max Van Meter's 15 points and seven rebounds. C.J. Julian had nine points on three treys for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals reached their biggest lead of six with 9:18 left in the first half, but the nationally ranked Battling Bishops battled back at the end of the period to enter the break with a one point lead.
In the second half, Rogers took over for OWU, scoring 12 points grabbing six boards and blocking three shots. Andy Winters dished out six assists in a row during the first five minutes of the half. He and Rogers helped pace an 11-0 run to start the half.
Julian got Otterbein back into it with back to back threes and a Tommy Waterwash long ball got the visitors within three, but that's as close as they would get for the remainder of the half.
For the game, Ohio Wesleyan dominated inside with 38 points in the paint to Otterbein's 14. OWU also had 13 fast break points to none for the Cardinals.
Ohio Wesleyan will face host UR in the championship game Sunday at 3 pm while Otterbein faces off against SUNY Cobleskill in the 1 pm consolation.
