Rochester, NY- Junior Jake Quattrini and sophomore Danny Yancone scored in the first 21 minutes to lead St. John Fisher to a season opening 2-0 victory over Fredonia in UR's Flower City Soccer Classic Friday afternoon.
Quattrini scored at 13:39 on a pass from Gahrett Varin and Yancone made it 2-0 at 21:16. Kris Toscano played a corner kick into the box and Stefan John headed it in front to Yancone who scored from six yards out.
Early in the game, Fredonia's Matt Schroen blocked John's shot at an open net five minutes into the game. Then shortly after, FSU goalkeeper A.J. Grecco tipped a shot over the crossbar four minutes later to keep the Cardinals off the board.
Grecco had one save for Fredonia (0-1). Kyle Metcalfe made two saves for Fisher (1-0).
On Sunday Fisher takes on Marywood University at 12 pm while Fredonia will play host Rochester at 3 pm. The classic champion will be determined by total points. SJFC and Rochester each have three points with their victories and Marywood and Fredonia have zero.
