Five Earn All-Region Honors From NSCAA

Five key players from the University of Rochester men's soccer team were named today to the All-East Region Team as voted on by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Two 'Jackets, junior Alex Swanger and sophomore Keith Grafmeyer earned first team honors.  Senior Max Fan and junior Andrew Sheridan earned second team accolades and senior Mike Moranz was named to the third team.  UR only had two All-Region selections in 2012.

This season UR posted a 15-3-2 record and won the UAA Conference title.  The Yellowjackets advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament, matching its deepest run in tournament history.

Swanger had a fantastic season and scored a team high nine goals and added three assists for a total of 21 points.  He was named 1st Team All-UAA and conference Player of the Year.  He also was honored for his academics this year as he was selected an Academic All-American by CoSIDA.

Grafmeyer was one of three Yellowjackets to earned All-UAA 1st team honors after his season of five goals and two assists from his defender position.  He added three game winners on the year.

Fan, in his final year on the river campus excelled in the postseason.  In three NCAA games, the senior had two goals and an assist while also scoring the game winner in both the 1st and 2nd round matches.  He finished the season with four goals and three assists for 11 points.

Sheridan was a key back line defender for the 'Jackets squad that only gave up 12 goals all season long.  He also added two assists on the season and played nearly 1600 minutes (79 min. per game).

Moranz in earning third team honors had one of the best UR seasons in goal this year.  The senior started all 20 games, allowed just 12 goals (0.65 GAA), made 51 saves (.810 %) and had seven solo shutouts and four other combined blank sheets.  He was the goalie of record in every game and finished with a 15-3-2 record.
