Ethan Pacheck Named Academic All-District

Rochester senior Ethan Pacheck continued a family tradition as a distance runner at the University of Rochester this year. He made his mark athletically and as a student. His brother, Adam, achieved the same success.  Now, there is another bond between them.

Ethan, like Adam, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Three First Team for men's cross country and track and field. Voting for the award is conducted among members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. As a First Team All-District honoree, Ethan now moves to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American. He is a native of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and an alumnus of Baldwinsville High School.

Over the course of his career at Rochester, Ethan earned a total of nine varsity letters for cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. In the winter season, he ran on the Distance Medley Relay which broke the school record with a time of 10:03.85. That time placed the Yellowjackets among the Top 25 DMR teams in Division III.

Pacheck earned six medals for his finishes at the New York State championships and three for his performance at the ECAC Championships. He is listed on Rochester's all-time Top 10 list in seven events.

He earned his degree in Chemical Engineering with minors in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering. He carries a 3.93 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale.

At Rochester's annual athletics awards banquet on April 30, Pacheck received the Peter DiPasquale Award, given to the top male scholar-athlete of the senior class. This was the first year that the award was presented in the name of DiPasquale. He is a 1952 graduate of the University who played football. He was inducted into Rochester's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

Pacheck was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally-renowned honor society, in April. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He held three scholarships as an undergraduate and was a teaching assistant for five classes – one in music and four in chemistry.

This summer, he will do research on nuclear engineering at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory near Knoxville, Tenn. In the fall, he will  begin study for his PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan.
