After a season in which she out-ran 95 percent of her opponents, University of Rochester junior Catherine "Katie" Knox proved to be one of the best distance runners in Division III circles. She's also one of the top scholars – and she now has another award to back it up.

Knox has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Three First Team for women's cross country and track and field. Voting for the award is conducted among members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. As a First Team All-District honoree, she now moves to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American. She is a native of Worcester, Mass. and an alumna of Notre Dame Academy.

In the 2014 cross country season, she earned First Team All-New York State honors by finishing fifth in a field of 113 individuals. A week later, she earned First Team All-University Athletic Association honors by finishing seventh out of 77 runners. In the NCAA Atlantic Regional (which was hosted by Rochester), she finished 10
th out of 272 runners and qualified to run in the NCAA National Championship race a week later. She was 56
th out of 275 at the NCAA title race.

Knox earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in her sophomore and junior seasons based on her academic prowess and her finish at regionals. She has been named to the UAA's All-Academic team in each of those two years. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, as well as the Society of Women Engineers.

She carries a 3.86 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale. Knox is majoring in mechanical engineering. In the spring semester, she has been studying engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Knox was a teaching assistant for a mechanical engineering course in statics. After the fall semester, she was named as a Provost's Circle Scholar, which recognizes the top 10 junior student-athletes. She interned in the research and development department of Vibram, a manufacturer of athletic footwear.
