FREDONIA, NY – The University of Rochester women's cross country team had eight of the top-11 finishers, as for the second-consecutive year, the Yellowjackets took home the team title at SUNY Fredonia's Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Rochester took home the team title with 21 points, with all five scoring runners finishing in the top seven.
Alyssa Horng won the individual title, crossing the finish line in 23:15.3, while
Ella Blau placed second with a time of 23:30.1.
Riley Joseph was URochester's next-highest finisher, finishing fifth with a time of 24:10.2, with Ariana Yedidia following close behind in sixth place, clocking in at 24:18.9.
Sam Mermelstein rounded out the Yellowjackets' top-five runners with a time of 24:27.2, good for seventh, while
Emily Dill and
Adriana Ochoa were UR's displacers.
Dill finished ninth, crossing the finish line in 25:07.2, and Ochoa came in 10th at 25:14.4.
Maria Khalifeh then made it eight 'Jackets in the top 11 with an 11th-place finish a few seconds behind Ochoa at 25:19.1
The Yellowjackets added one more top-20 finisher in
Peyton Classer, who came in 17th in the 66-runner field with a time of 25:41.1, while
Kara Goldstein placed 22nd (26:08.4).
Talia Christopher made it 11 Yellowjackets in the top 30 with a 30th-place result and 26:28.6 time, and
Isabella Doty made it 12 in the top 40 with a 39th-place finish, clocking in at 27:00.8.
URochester combined for 21 points, 24 points ahead of second-place finisher SUNY Geneseo, who tallied a 45-point score, while Penn St. Behrend came in third with 94 points.
The 'Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they head to Oberlin, OH, for Oberlin College's Inter-Regional Rumble, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
