Box Score 2 CANTON, NY – Rochester defeated St. Lawrence, 3-1, then lost to host SUNY Canton, 3-2, at the Canton Classic Saturday.
In the opener, the Yellowjackets took the first set 25-19, before St. Lawrence event the match with a 25-22 win in set two. Â Rochester would then take the next two, 25-16 and 25-22 to seal the victory.
The nightcap saw Canton win the first two games, 25-19, 25-23. Rochester would battle back, taking the next two, 25-17, 25-18. Canton won the tiebreaking fifth game, 15-10. Canton is 13-3, SLU is 9-9 after the loss to Rochester. The Yellowjackets stand at 10-7.

In the St. Lawrence match, balance was key with five players smashing more than six kills each. Â They were led by Jennie Ford (9) and Emma Gira (9), with Alexandra Goldman (8), Alexandra Nelligan (7) and Nina Baek (6) each adding in solid hitting performances.
On the defensive front, Ford led UR with 15 digs, while Ashley Hunter added 12. Â Gira and Goldman each had three blocks (1 solo, 2 assists) in the match.
Against Canton, Gira and Ford combined for 26 kills. Gira had 14 kills with two digs, two blocks, and one ace. Ford had 12 kills and a team-best 22 digs. Kayla Sell had nine kills and six blocks.

Shira Katz had seven kills and Baek had five. Kohler recorded 46 assists. Baek had four block assists.
Rochester's next matches are at UAA Round Robin #1 set for next Saturday and Sunday at New York University.
