There are common threads that unite senior jumper Boubacar Diallo and senior middle distance runner Jeremy Hassett. They are both superior performers for a strong men's track and field team. They have won handfuls of honors on the New York State level. And now, they are united as outstanding student-athletes.

Diallo and Hassett have been elected to the 2016 Academic All-District III First Team in Track and Field and Cross Country after voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. As First Team honorees, they advance to the national ballot for consideration as Academic All-Americans. Diallo is a native of Bignona, Senegal and a graduate of the African Leadership Academy. Hassett is a resident of Newark, N.Y. who graduated from Newark High School.

Diallo won three New York State titles jumping as a senior. He won the long jump and triple jump indoors, then won the triple jump outdoors. He jumped in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Championships this past winter.

Last spring, he finished fourth in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Championships and earned All-America honors. He won three State titles as a junior – the triple jump outdoors, the triple and long jumps outdoors. He was a top-eight finisher (medalist) in both jumping events at the State outdoor championships two seasons ago.

Away from the competitive arena, he carries a 3.49 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale. He majored in mechanical engineering. He was a teaching assistant in Solid Mechanics. He held two scholarships from the University. Last summer, he interned for a Moroccan foundry company in Casablanca on product design and manufacturing. As a freshman, he helped build houses in New Orleans.

Hassett won seven New York State championships over a four-year career in four outdoor and three indoor middle-distance events (800, mile, 1,000, 1,500, 4x800 relay [twice], Distance Medley Relay). He won seven medals at the ECAC Championships for top-eight finishes. He is part of the University's record-setting Distance Medley Relay team.

He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa this spring. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. Hassett was selected as Rochester's Top Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016. As a junior, he was named as a Provost's Circle Scholar. He is a member of the Varsity Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was named as a USTFCCCA Scholar by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Hassett won a faculty prize in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2016. He was a research assistant in the Plasma and Ultrafast Laboratory on campus. Last summer, he was a research assistant at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.

He carried a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 on a 4.00 scale, majoring in audio and music engineering.
