The #5-ranked University of Rochester squash team kicked off the 2018-19 season with a strong 8-1 victory over visiting Cornell University on Saturday evening at the Lyman Squash Center.

Rochester moves to 1-0 while #15 Cornell, who played earlier in the day on Saturday and won, fell to 1-1.

Five of the Yellowjacket wins came by 3-0 sweeps.Â
Lawrence Kuhn won at #4 13-11, 11-6, and 11-6 over Alex Dworetzky while
Marcus Sim posted a win at #6 11-8, 11-4, and 11-3 over Nick Goth Errington.

The bottom third of UR's lineup was perfect as well, with first-year
Cesar Segundo, senior
Rodrigo Porras and junior
Alex Riedelsheimer all going 3-0 in their matches at #7, #8 and #9 respectively. Segundo won 11-4, 15-13 and 11-5 over Luke Park, Porras defeated Jared Scherl 11-3, 11-3 and 11-3 while Riedelsheimer won 11-9, 11-5 and 11-3 over Yohann Surti.

Toth rallied from 0-2 down for a win at #3.
Junior
Matthew Toth posted a nice comeback win for UR at #3, rallying from 0-2 down in his match to Perry Hanson. The Big Red player opened with 11-8 and 14-12 wins before Toth rallied with 11-7, 11-7 and 11-5 wins to earn the win.

At #5, first-year
Thijs Van Der Pluijm also won in five games, defeating Cornell's Illia Presman 9-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-3 and 12-10. The other UR win came from sophomore
Ashley Davies at #2 as he beat Charles Culhane 11-6, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-5.

Cornell's win was earned by Andy Muran at the top spot against UR's
Ricardo Lopez. Muran won in three games, 11-6, 11-9 and 12-10.

In the #10 exhibition match, Rochester's
Siddhant Iyer won 3-0 over James Paolella (11-9, 12-10, 15-13).
