University of Rochester senior Nikolas Angyal (pronounced ANGEL) has been named the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division III Men's Soccer. His selection was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Angyal was also named a First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA. Senior midfielder Bryce Ikeda (eee-KAY-dah) was elected as a Third Team Academic All-American.
 
Angyal is a native of Stormville, New York and an alumnus of John Jay-East Fishkill High School. Ikeda is a native of Tacoma, Washington and a graduate of Stadium High School.
 
Nik Angyal
This is the second major award that Angyal has received in the past week. On November 29, he was named as the winner of the men's Elite 90 Award by the NCAA at the Division III Final Four. The Elite 90 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average among all of the athletes at the finals site.
 
Angyal is majoring in Chemical Engineering. He has a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He was selected as an Academic All-American in 2017, elected to the Second Team. He became Rochester's 100^th Academic All-American.
 
Last year, Angyal was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally renowned honor society, and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society.  He is in his second year as a teaching assistant in Fluid Dynamics and has done so for organic chemistry.  Angyal has participated in research in UR's Chemical Engineering department developing an electrolyte for use in Lithium-Ion batteries, as well as interning with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.  His volunteer experience includes working with his local soccer club in Dutchess County and serving as a tutor at the Rochester International Academy.
 
Bryce Ikeda
For Ikeda, this is his second major award in the same time period. At the NCAA Division III banquet, he was named as a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches Association. It is his first All-America honor and this is his first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor. He was named a 2017 USC Scholar-Athlete after his junior year.

 
Ikeda is the fifth Rochester player to earn First Team All-America honors in men's soccer and the first one in 13 years. Rochester has a total of 25 All-America honors in men's soccer. Previous First Team All-Americans are Ted Zornow (1958), Chris Apple (1989), Kirk Dietrich (1997), and Gary Stom (2005).
 
This is the seventh honor for Ikeda this season – three as a player, four academically. On the field, he was named First Team All-University Athletic Association, First Team All-East Region by the USC, and First Team All-American. Academically, he was named Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America, now a Third Team Academic All-American, UAA All-Academic, and a Lysle 'Spike' Garnish honoree by the Athletic Department at Rochester. The Garnish awards take into account athletic achievement, academic ability, and community service.
 
In the classroom, Ikeda is an electrical and computer engineering major with a cumulative GPA of 3.68.  He has completed internships with Harris Corporation and Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation and was a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American last season along with being an Academic All-District honoree.  He is a three-time UAA All-Academic team member and earned UR's Garnish Scholar Athlete award earlier this season.  Additionally, he has volunteered his time raising money for Special Olympics and has served as a volunteer tutor at the Rochester International Academy.
 
Rochester's Academic All-America Legacy:
Nine Rochester men's soccer players have combined for 12 Academic All-America honors. Nik Angyal is one of three players with more than one AAA honor. Nathan Micklos was honored in 2004 and 2005, Alex Swanger in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, Angyal is just the third Rochester student-athlete to be selected as the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year. Tanya Klebe was selected for women's volleyball in 1997, and Micklos was selected in 2005 for men's soccer.
 
Since the initial award in 1976 for football, Rochester has a total of 104 Academic All-America honors,
