UR Set To Host Hillside Shield Match Tuesday

9/10/2018 3:16:00 PM

The University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology are once again competing in the annual Hillside Community Shield soccer match, with the contest schedule for Tuesday, September 11th at 7 pm at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

2018 will be the seventh year of the game and is aimed at supporting the youth and families served by the Hillside Family of Agencies.  Hillside's mission is to partner with youth, adults and their families to provide individualized health, education and human services through an integrated system of care.

"The Rochester-RIT matchup is always a great local soccer rivalry'" says UR head coach Chris Apple, "and playing this game to benefit Hillside is a great way to involve the community and showcase some great soccer."

Because the Hillside Shield match falls this year on September 11th, Patriot Day, the Rochester and RIT communities will also be recognizing local first responders at the game and be remembering all those who perished in the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001 with a moment of silence prior to kickoff.

This season's matchup will likely be an exciting one, as both squads enter the game unbeaten at 3-0-0 on the season.  RIT has wins over St. John Fisher, Brockport and Keuka, while UR has beaten Renssealer, St. John Fisher and Hobart.

Last year, the Yellowjackets were victorious 5-1 to retain the shield and were led by a Geoffrey Rouin hat trick.  Bryce Ikeda and Alex DiPerna also scored for Rochester while Anthony DeFeo recorded the goal for the Tigers.

Hillside has been serving children and families in our local communities for over 180 years, with what is known today as the Hillside Family of Agencies beginning back in 1837.  Hillside delivers an array of services that provide health, education and human services programs and resources that are either unavailable or in short supply – but which are desperately needed within our community.  For more information about Hillside, visit their website at https://www.hillside.com/.
