GENESEO, NY – The University of Rochester women's cross country team got its first look at the NCAA Niagara regional course at the Geneseo National Warplane Museum field, competing at the SUNY Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational on Saturday morning.
UR was able to get its depth some racing action as this was the third straight week of competition for the Yellowjackets. Overall, Rochester placed 21st in a field of 29 teams, scoring 530 team points. Host SUNY Geneseo took the team title.
Rochester was led by first-year runner
Ellie Ponko who finished in 85th place in the 322 runner field. Ponko's time for the 6-kilometer course was 24:40.2.
Just six seconds separated UR's second and third runners in the race, with sophomore
Sennett Turner placing 128th and classmate
Kat Benninger running 137th. Turner clocked in with a time of 25:20.3, while Benninger ran in 25:26.4.
Junior
Carissa Minarovich finished 158th in the race with her time of 25:44.9, while first-year
Andie Burton rounded out UR's top-5 runners with a 25:55.7 time, good for 168th place.
Rochester's displacers were senior
Teghan Murray (227th) and senior
Sarah Farid (238th).
The Yellowjackets get next week off, before competing at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border battle in two weeks on October 16th.
