CLEVELAND – Rochester returned to the water and gave a good accounting of itself in a meet against Case Western Reserve University on Sunday. The top finisher for the Yellowjacket women was either second (five events) or third (five events) along with a diving title. Rochester's men had similar numbers – five seconds, five thirds, and two victories – on both diving boards.
Â
The biggest news came from the diving well where
David Robinson posted his second qualifying score on the one meter board (six optionals) and broke a Rochester record on the three meter board (six optionals).
Adam Hopson produced his first three meter qualifying score this season.
Â
Robinson won both diving events. He had a 281.32 on the one meter (which was his qualifying score) and a 345.01 on the three meter board. The three meter score broke the existing Rochester record set by Stephen Savchik in 2020 (325.50). Hopson was second on both boards – 273.45 on the one meter and 286.05 on the three meter (to qualify for diving regionals in late winter).
Â
Both relay teams swam to third place finishes. The 400 medley relay team (
Jeremy Mah,
Alexander Cho, Ed Domanico, and
Trevor Hoch) was timed in 3:35.81. The 400 freestyle relay (Johnny Wu,
Grant Yap,
Bryce Berkhof, and Hoch) was timed in 3:125.75.
Â
In addition to his relay work, Hoch swam the sprint freestyle races, timed in 0:21.77 in the 50 (third place) and 0:48.76 in the 100 (second place). Berkhof was second (1:48.80) and Wu third (1:49.09) in the 200 yard freestyle. Cho was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.37). Mah was third in the 200 backstroke (2:03.52). Domanico was fifth in the 100 fly (0:54.18).
Â
Jose Corredor Alvarez took runnerup honors in the 1,000 freestyle (10:03.80) and was fourth in the 500 free (4:51.61).
Frank Li was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:02.25) and fifth in the 200 fly (2:05.43).
Matt Kiel swam a 2:14.26 in the 200 breaststroke and finished second.
