After a successful start to the 2021-22 season, four athletes from the University of Rochester track and field program have earned weekly honors from the Liberty Leauge on Monday.
Juniors
Gabe Lundy and
Susan Bansbach were the men's and women's Track Performers of the Week in their respective genders. Joining them on the weekly awards list were first-year's
Cole Goodman and
Megan Bell. Goodman was named Liberty League men's Field Performer of the Week, while Bell was the women's track and field Rookie of the Week.
All four had strong meets at the Nazareth Alumni Opener for the Yellowjackets last Friday.
Lundy finished top-3 twice during his season debut. The junior sprinter finished second in the 400 meters with an indoor PR time of 50.21 seconds, an Atlantic regional qualifier. In addition, his time currently ranks #8 currently in Division III this season. Lundy also ran on UR's 4x400 meter relay which posted a time of 3:31.19 which ended in third place and is #28 in D3 this season.
Bansbach ranks in the top-3 nationally in two events after the weekend of competition across the country. The junior finished second in the 400 meters in 58.18 seconds, a regional qualifier and time which ranks #2 in Division III so far this season, behind event winner Madison Mulder of Geneseo. In addition, Bansbach ran on UR's runner-up 4x400 meter relay which posted a time of 4:00.50, another regional qualifier and current #3 time in Division III.
Goodman earned an event victory in his first collegiate meet, posting a winning mark of 14.24 meters in the triple jump, the #4 mark in Division III so far this season. The first-year was remarkably consistent with his jumps, clearing 13.80 meters on all six jumps, with three over 14.00 meters. He was a regional qualifier in the triple jump and is fourth best in school history. He also placed in ninth in the long jump with a jump of 6.44 meters.
Bell also had two exceptional results for Rochester on Friday night. Individually, she placed first in the 500 meters, winning by nearly two full seconds in the event with her time of 1:23.24. Bell also competed on Rochester's runner-up 4x400 meter relay team which clocked in with a time of 4:00.50, an Atlantic Regional qualifier and time which ranks #3 in NCAA Division III this season.
