Senior goalkeeper
Emma Schechter of the Rochester women's soccer team was distinguished by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday, earning Third Team Scholar All-America accolades.
Â
In addition to Scholar All-America honors, Schechter also received Second Team Scholar All-East Region plaudits earlier on Thursday.
Â
The United Soccer Coaches require that student-athletes have a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or higher throughout their career, be a junior or above in athletic standing at their institution, play in a minimum of 75 percent of game during the season of nomination and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., All-American, All-Region, All-Conference).
Â
Schechter meets all those requirements following a terrific fall semester in which she was outstanding both in the classroom and on the field for the Yellowjackets.
Â
The senior was named First Team All-Region and Second Team All-UAA. She accumulated a 5-4-5 record in goal and had a 0.75 goals against average in 14 games. She added six solo shutouts, plus two shared, and had a save percentage of .847 across 1,327 minutes. Schechter also was named UAA Defensive Player of the Week twice and was key in shutouts of #2 William Smith, #8 Case Western Reserve, #15 Carnegie Mellon and #21 Emory.
Â
Off the field, her résumé was just as strong. She was selected as a First Team Academic All-District by CoSIDA, earning a spot on the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration. Additionally, Schechter was a UAA All-Academic selection for the third straight year and received Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar recognition earlier in the fall from the UR Athletic Department. She also was a Provost Circle Scholar and was named a United Soccer Coaches Player of Distinction last academic year.
Â
The Bellair, Florida native is majoring in Data Science and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.92.
Â
Schechter is fourth player in program history to earn United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors and is the first since 2007 when Lauren Bojko and Ashley Van Vechten were selected representing Rochester. Van Vechten was a 2-time honoree, also earning the award in 2006 with teammate Emily Urbanczyk.
