ITHACA, NY – Day two is complete at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational, and the University of Rochester men's swimming and diving finished where it started, in third place among ten teams at the event.
Rochester's score sits at 792 points through two days of competition, trailing SUNY Geneseo (1461 points) and host Ithaca (1037.5 points) on the team leaderboard. Rounding out the top five teams are Shippensburg with 425 points and Vassar with 415.5 points.
On Saturday, UR's top individual swimmer was
Jeremy Mah who placed fourth of 62 swimmers in the 100 backstroke. His time was 52.52 seconds and he led four Yellowjacket swimmers who placed among the top-16 in the event.
Joining Mah were
Sidney Miller in tenth (53.52) and
Chris Bushnell and
Edward Domanico who each finished tied for 14th place at 54.09.
UR diver
David Robinson finished in fourth individually as well, coming in the 1-meter diving event. He accumulated an 11-dive score of 493.50 points, just over two points shy of the school record set by Stephen Savchik back in 2019. Teammate
Adam Hopson was solid as well in the event, finishing seventh with a score of 415.95.
Rochester's relays were strong, finishing no worse than fourth in the three group events contested on Saturday. The 400 medley relay (Mah,
Alexander Cho, Miller, Hoch) was third in 3:30.08, the 200 free relay (
Bryce Berkhof, Bushnell,
Grant Yap, Hoch) was fourth in 1:26.70 and the 800 free relay (
Jose Corredor Alvarez,
Sean Finnerty, Mah, Berkhof) finished fourth in 7:05.65.
The Yellowjackets had two top-8 results in the 100 butterfly in the morning session. Hoch finished seventh of 68 swimmers with a time of 52.03 seconds. That was just a shade ahead of teammate
Frank Li who clocked in with a time of 52.24 seconds, good for eighth. Miller wasn't too far behind in 12th place (52.44).
Li also was 11th in the 200 butterfly in the evening session, earning a time of 1:59.99. Also later in the day, Cho was sixth of 60 in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 58.31 seconds.
In addition to his relay swims, Berkhof placed ninth individually in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:45.11. Corredor Alvarez joined him in the top-16, finishing 16th in 1:46.89.
Matt Kiel and Domanico rounded out Saturday's top finishers with eighth and 14th place finishes respectively in the 400 IM. Kiel's time was 4:19.78 and Domanico clocked in at 4:28.08.
Day three begins on Sunday at 9 am and features six events to close out the meet which concludes Rochester's first semester schedule.
