Two University of Rochester golfers have been selected as members of the 2021 University Athletic Association All-Conference team as chosen by the leagues coaches.
Â
Senior
Declan Hickton and first-year
Tom Liu are two of ten golfers selected to the All-League team which also features golfers from Carnegie Mellon and Emory, teams which finished in the top-10 at the recently completed NCAA Division III Championships.
Â
Hickton also competed at NCAA's this season, qualifying as one of six individuals selected to compete who were not a part of a qualifying team for nationals. The senior ended in a tie for 86th place after two rounds, but missed the cut for individual qualifiers by a few strokes.
Â
Overall, Hickton had a remarkable season in which he averaged 73.09 strokes per round and finished in the top-5 in five of six events. He captured medalist honors three times and had nearly half of his rounds, five of 11, finish at or below par. Hickton's win-loss percentage in 2021 was .729 (239-89) including the NCAA Championships and it was .971 (134-4) during regular season competition.
Â
Liu meanwhile finished as UR's number two golfer throughout the season, carding a scoring average of 75.89 across nine rounds. Liu finished in solo second at the UR Fred Kravetz Invitational, was tied for second at the St. John Fisher Midvale Invite and earned a fourth place finish at the St. John Fisher Cobblestone Invite.
Â
Additionally, Liu had a winning percentage of .862 (119-19) on the year, had four top-10's in five events and had a low round this season of 73 twice, coming at the Liberty League Championship and at the St. John Fisher Midvale Invite.
Â
Hickton and Liu both earn their first All-UAA honors this season and are the 105th and 106th all-time UR golf honorees within the conference. In league history, the Yellowjackets have now had 54 golfers make 1st Team All-UAA, 51 as 2nd Team selections and one honorable mention choice.
