'Jackets Terrific In Winter Brockport Meet, Finish 2nd

BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester women's track and field program earned one school record, five event wins, had eight All-Atlantic Regional qualifiers and recorded six NCAA top-50 marks in a runner-up team finish at the Winter Welcome Back to Brockport Meet on Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior Madeline O'Connell had UR's school record, coming in the pole vault where she finished first with a mark of 3.60 meters. O'Connell's height tied the existing record set by Lindsay Carbone in 2014 and booked O'Connell a spot to regionals. In addition, her mark is currently the #11 height in Division III this season.
 
Teammate Ashley Heffernan added a regional performance in the same event, finishing third with a mark of 3.35 meters. Heffernan also was a winner in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in 9.29 seconds, another regional performance and the current #31 time in the nation.
 
Rochester's Lisa Pink is currently ranked inside NCAA Division III's top-25 in the 800 meters after Saturday's performance in which she earned an event win in 2:21.93. She also earned a regional qualifier.
 
In the 200 meters, UR's Kristin Hardy and Susan Bansbach were both regional qualifiers and are inside the nations top-40 following their performances. Hardy was fifth in 26.40 seconds, with Bansbach ending sixth, just .03 seconds behind.
 
The Yellowjackets final two regional qualifiers were Alyssa Hoogs in the triple jump and Gillian Reeder in the weight throw. Hoogs placed second with a mark of 10.88 meters, ranking just inside the NCAA's top-50 following Saturday's meet. Reeder was third with a distance of 14.69 meters.
 
UR went 1-2-3 in the 500 meters, scoring big points for the team standings. Bansbach was first in 1:19.42, Eileen Bequette placed second in 1:21.25 and Madeleine Vogel earned third place following a 1:24.32 run.
 
In the lone relay event of the day, Rochester's 4x400 meter relay squad of Jael Ernest Fleurant, Hardy, Kate Isaac and Pink finished first in 4:13.26. Megan Bell finished as runner-up in the individual 400 meters, clocking in with a time of 1:02.14.
 
Three events saw the Yellowjackets finish with three scoring performers. The 60 meter dash saw Annabelle Shanks finish fourth (8.16), Hardy fifth (8.24) and Isaac eighth (8.40). In the 3000 meters, Rachel Dennis ended sixth (11:08.28), Sabrina Terando seventh (11:12.75) and Kat Benninger eighth (11:13.90). After Hoogs' runner-up result in the triple jump, teammates Zoe Fortin (10.29m) and Cora Rose (10.19m) finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
 
Bequette had a fourth place result in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.74 seconds and also was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.12 meters, coming in addition to her second place finish in the 500 meters.
 
UR's final scorers were Hoogs in the long jump, ending sixth (5.00m) and Deziree Garrick in the shot put, placing eighth (10.58m).
 
The team scoring saw SUNY Geneseo earn the title with 151 points with Rochester finishing second with 134 points. Host Brockport was third with a score of 124 points.
