Men Gather Points in Six Events and Place 7th at UAA Championships

ATLANTA - Jose Corredor Alvarez became Rochester's highest individual finisher on the final day of the University Athletic Association swimming & diving championships at Emory University. He came within 10 seconds of the school record in the 1,650 yard Freestyle which he set two years ago at these same championships.
 
He got to the touchpad in 15:58.14 (his record is 15:48.07) and placed 10th individually. Nate Pollitt also placed in the top 24 of the finals of the 1,650. He finished in 23rd place (16:32.02). Two others just missed a top 24 spot; Sean Finnerty swam a 16:51.75 and Bryce Berkhof was timed in 16:52.60.
 
Three other swimmers and one diver produced point-scoring performances. Trevor Hoch was 15th in the 100 yard Freestyle. Hoch's time was :46.09, close to the UR record of :45.13. Jeremy Mah scored in 23rd place in the 200 yard Backstroke (1:55.92). The 200 Back record is 1:50.29. Frank Li swam a 1:55.26 in the 200 Fly to finish 22nd (record time is 1:54.17).
 
On the One Meter Diving board for men, David Robinson qualified for the Saturday finals by accumulating 416.90 points in the prelims. He was seventh overall. In the finals that same night, he scored a 415.20 and finished in sixth place.
 
Rochester's 400 Freestyle A Relay was seventh overall and the B Relay was 15th. The A Relay swimmers touched in 3:09.07 (record time is 3:05.86). Grant Yap led off, followed by Bryce Berkhof, Edward Domanico, and Hoch. The B Relay time was 3:16.97 with this order: Finnerty, Will Murray, Sidney Miller, and Mah.
 
Rochester finished in seventh place in both the women's (484.5 pts.) and men's (493 pts.) categories. The combined team totals of 977.5 points also put UR in seventh overall, ahead of Brandeis. Host Emory won all three of those titles: women's division, men's division, combined.
