PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester sprinters and throwers posted solid results in the final regular season meet of the season at the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up at the Golisano Training Center.
Overall, the Yellowjackets compiled 6 All-Atlantic Regional qualifiers, 1 event win and 15 top-8 finishes.
Sophomore
Mitch Lienert led UR with two AAR performances and placed second in two events. Lienert sprinted to second place in the 60 meter dash, posting a finals time in the invitational event of 7.12, a new personal-best and #4 time in Rochester history. In addition, Lienert grabbed second in the 200 meters with a regional time of 22.76 seconds.
Lienert was runner-up in the 200 meters to teammate
Gabe Lundy who earned the lone event win for Rochester on the day. Lundy's time was 22.66 and another UR regional qualifying performance.
Teammate
P.J. London also ended seventh in the 200 meters (23.21 seconds) and ran fifth in the 60 meter invite (7.19 seconds).
Manny Eribo cracked the top-8 as well in the 60 meters with a time of 7.42. Additionally,
Jarod Forer ran the non-seeded 60 meters and finished fourth with a time of 7.50 seconds.
Rochester's lone top-8 finisher in the non-sprint events came from
Nate Brunacini in the 3000 meters. Brunacini finished in second place and was the top-D3 runner overall in 8:48.50. Additionally, he earned a spot to the regional meet.
Peter Brodnik finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.72 seconds.
Both
James O'Neill and
Ryan Swavely earned regional qualifers in the shot put and weight throw, respectively. O'Neill finished seventh with a mark of 13.91 meters and Swavely was fifth with a toss of 16.13 meters in his event.
Forer placed third overall, and was the second Division III competitor in the pole vault with a height of 4.27 meters.
James Schmidt was seventh in the same event with a height of 3.97 meters.
UR's jumpers placed two in the top-8 as well.
Alex Opsahl was sixth in the high jump at 1.79 meters and
Sam Lorenzetti was eighth in the long jump, posting a distance of 6.32 meters.
Rochester's next event is the Liberty League Indoor Championships taking place from February 25-26 at Ithaca College.
