Abdallah, Hansen Lead Rochester on Day One of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Barack Abdallah opened his outdoor season with a school-record time and Emmett Hansen notched Rochester's top-scoring finish as the University of Rochester men's track & field team competed on day one of The College of William & Mary's Colonial Relays on Friday at Zable Stadium.
 
Following the opening day's action, Rochester sits in 11th with 12.5 points through the first 12 of 34 events. Bucknell leads the 19-team field with 111 points, with Wagner in second with 43 points, and host William & Mary in third with 40 points.
 
Hansen notched Rochester's top-scoring finish on the day, setting a new personal-best mark in the javelin toss with a 53.97m throw, good for third place. Hansen's throw was also an All-Atlantic Region (AARTFC) qualifier and ranks 49th on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List.
 
Ashton Tokarski also competed in the javelin for Rochester, finishing 13th with a 36.52m toss.
 
Joe Berry scored for Rochester in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing sixth with a time of 9:51.71, a new PR. While the Yellowjackets' final scoring finish of the day came in the high jump, where Aadit Jain placed fifth with a 1.89m height.
 
Abdallah began his day with the 100 meters, breaking the school record, previously set by Jeff Hrebenach in 2016, by 0.03 seconds. The first-year clocked in at 10.74 seconds in the 100 meters, a new school record, personal best and regional qualifier, in addition to being the 44th-fastest 100-meter time in Division III so far this season.
 
Abdallah was also URochester's top finisher in the 200 meters, placing 11th with a time of 22.33 seconds.
 
Owen Bernstein got the 'Jackets' day on the track started with the 800 meters, placing 11th with a time of 1:55.82. Owen Alexander then paced Rochester in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.60 seconds, good for 10th place and an All-Atlantic Region qualifying time.
 
A trio of Yellowjackets earned top-20 results in the 400-meter hurdles, led by Owen Hatungimana, who placed 13th with a time of 57.14 seconds, a new PR. Brighton Lumia finished right behind Hantungimana in 14th place with a time of 57.66 seconds, while Ivan Wolf-Mialky placed 20th with a time of 58.86 seconds.
 
In the 400 meters, Evan Bryant was Rochester's top finisher, crossing the finish line in 23rd place with a time of 50.62 seconds.
 
URochester saw top-10 results in both the 1,500-meter invite and open, as Austin Skeete earned a second-place result in the open race, before Liam Sakakeeny ran to a ninth-place result in the invite. Both Skeete and Sakakeeny earned AARTFC marks, with Sakakeeny's time of 3:56.54, a new PR, ranking 33rd in Division III so far this season. While Skeete's 3:57.38 mark ranks 44th.
 
Also, in the 1,500-meter invite race, Jacob Bernd came in 11th with a time of 4:07.02.
 
Sam Cohen wrapped up Rochester's day on the track with the 5,000 meters, placing 34th out of 49 competitors with a time of 15:37.11.
 
Three 'Jackets earned top-20 marks in the long jump, with Reward Mulauzi leading the trio with a 12th place jump of 6.53m, while Tokarski placed 14th (6.43m) and Austin Lansey came in 17th (6.39m).
 
Alex Hermann was Rochester's top finisher in the shot put, with a 15th-place throw of 11.62m.
 
Rochester will return to Zable Stadium for the final day of the Colonial Relays on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
