ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester sent three divers to the NCAA Division III Region 4 Diving Championships on Friday, competing on day one of the two day event which will determine NCAA nationals qualifiers.

David Robinson were Rochester's representatives on Friday at Ithaca College.
In the men's 3-meter event, Robinson finished in sixth place with a score of 469.25 points. Hopson competed as well, finishing in 11th place with his score of 408.30 points over the 11-dive program. Overall, 16 divers competed.
Lever dove in the women's 1-meter board and finished 14th among the 21 competitors with her score of 374.65 points.
On the 3-meter board, Robinson averaged a judges score of 6.39 throughout his dives, ranking fourth in the field. His highest scoring dive was his last of the competition, the back two and a half somersault tuck. The dive scored 57.40 points after getting two 7.0 and one 6.5 scores with a degree of difficulty of 2.8. Robinson also excelled with his forward one and half somersault pike which received 22.5 points (three 7.5 scores) before the DD multiplication.
Hopson averaged a score of 5.41 throughout his dive list. His highest scoring dive was an inward two and half somersault pike which received three 6.5 scores and multiplied the degree of difficulty of 3.0 to reach a score of 58.50 points. The senior also recorded two dives with 46.80 points, the forward two and half somersault pike and inward two somersault pike.
In the women's event, Lever averaged a judges score of 5.56 throughout the meet. Her highest scoring dive was her opening forward two somersault tuck which recorded 42.90 points. Lever's highest rated dive was the back pike dive which received multiple 7.0 scores. Her back somersault dive with one and a half twists also was a solid dive, adding 40.25 points to her score.
Overall, the NCAA has determined that seven women's divers and five men's divers from Region 4 will qualify to dive at the NCAA Division III Championships next month. Those qualifiers are taken from the highest finishing divers across both events, with the first place finishers from each board being picked first, followed by the second place finishers, and so on.
Day two of the competition on Saturday features the men's 1-meter board and the women's 3-meter event.
