INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Sophomore diver
David Robinson on the men's swimming and diving team got his first taste of competition at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday afternoon, placing 18th in the 3-meter board competition.
Robinson compiled a score of 406.50 points, finishing just outside the top-16 which earn All-America accolades.
Overall, 23 divers competed in the event. The UR sophomore will have another crack at All-America honors on Friday when he competes in the 1-meter competition.
On Wednesday, Robinson got off to a solid start, scoring 44.10 points on his inward one and a half somersault pike and ranked first in the field after two rounds of dives.
In rounds five and six, he scored 40 points or more on his forward one and a half somersault twist (40.95) and forward two and half somersault pike (44.40) to sit in sixth place.
Robinson's highest scoring dive of the day was his back one and a half somersault, one and a half twist which scored all seven's from the judges and earned him 50.40 points.
Across his 11 dive list, Robinson averaged a 5.65 score from the judges. In addition to his ninth dive which scored all seven's, he also received three scoring seven's on his opening dive, the forward one and a half somersault pike.
The diving preliminaries on day three of nationals begin on Friday at 1 pm. The NCAA Championships are being held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.
