Golf In 5th After Day One at Liberty League Championship

VERONA, NY – A tough back nine at the Turning Stone Resort Shenendoah Course dropped the University of Rochester golf team into fifth place after one day at the 2022 Liberty League Golf Championships on Friday afternoon.
 
Overall, the Yellowjackets shot a team score of 308 in Friday's opening round, sitting in fifth among the seven teams in the event.
 
Skidmore College is in first after the first 18 holes shooting a 295. NYU sits second at 297, while RPI (301) and St. Lawrence (305) rank third and fourth. After Rochester, Hobart is sixth at 326 and Clarkson is seventh at 327.
 
Leading Rochester's golfers on day one was senior Nishant Datta who shot a 2-over par round of 74. Datta's round featured four birdies, including two on the final two holes of his round, and six bogeys. He is in a tie for fifth place after round one.
 
Teammate Brendan Frain was strong over his opening nine holes, heading out with a 1-under, 35 score, but came in with 41, finishing with a 76 (+4) on Friday. Frain is tied for 14th after the opening 18 holes. He recorded three birdies, all of which came in a five hole span towards the end of his opening nine holes.
 
Lewis Raboy sits tied for 22nd after shooting a 78 (6-over) in round one, while Tom Liu carded an 80 (8-over) to be Rochester's fourth team scorer for the round. He is in a tie for 26th.
 
The opening day dropped score was first-year Gary Pan's 85 (+13). He ranks tied for 28th in the field.
 
Round two tee times at the 6,763 yard Shenendoah Course begin on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
