UR Tallies 12 Top-5 Finishes at Winter Welcome Back to Brockport Meet

BROCKPORT, NY – University of Rochester women's track & field, led by a trio of victories from Alyssa Hoogs, Ashley Heffernan and Susan Bansbach, tallied 12 Top-5 finishes at the Winter Welcome Back to Brockport, the 'Jackets' first meet of the 2023 calendar year, on Saturday at Brockport's Special Events Recreation Center.
 
Kate Isaac and Bansbach got the Yellowjackets' started in the 60-meter dash, with Isaac pacing UR with a fourth-place finish at 8.00, and Bansbach right behind her with a time of 8.08, with both times hitting the regional qualifying mark. Both times are currently ranked inside the top-20 in Division III this season, with Bansbach sitting 13th and Isaac 17th.
 
The duo then placed first and second in the 200-meter dash, with both times again hitting the regional qualifying mark. Bansbach scored a first-place finish, clocking in at 25.90, with Isaac less than a second behind at 26.07.
 
Megan Bell also joined the pair in the Top 10, setting a new personal best with a time of 27.02. Then in the 400-meter dash, Bell paced UR with a second-place finish, hitting the regional qualifying mark and setting a new personal best with a time of 1:00.14. Bell's time is a top-25 performance in NCAA Division III this season, becoming the fourth Yellowjacket runner to say so at this point in the year.
 
In the 800-meter run, Carissa Minarovich clocked in a team-best 2:30.81, while in the mile, Kat Benninger finished just outside the Top 10 with a time of 5:33.90, a new personal best for the junior.
 
Alicia Lawson added to UR's Top-5 tally in the 3,000 meters, finishing third with a personal-best time of 11:03.52, while Rachel Dennis added a Top-10 result, clocking in at 11:28.75.
 
Heffernan notched a regional qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries (9.37), before scoring a first-place finish in the pole vault, adding another regional qualifying time with her 3.20m vault. The pole vault height makes her among the top-50 currently in Division III.
 
A pair of Rochester relay teams placed in the 4x400 meter relay, with Sab Lin, Isabella Doty, Julia Lantner and Bansbach leading UR with a sixth-place finish and a time of 4:32.98.
 
Four Yellowjackets placed in the top 10 of the long jump, led by Hoogs who scored her first Top-3 finish with a jump of 5.19m. Ashleigh Barrett placed right behind Hoogs in fourth with a 5.12m jump, while Zoe Fortin finished sixth at 4.96m, and Quinn Taylor earned a 10th-place tally with a jump of 4.63m.
 
Then in the triple jump, Hoogs scored the victory, jumping a total of 10.77m, another regional qualifying score for the Yellowjackets. Cora Rose joined Hoogs in the Top-3 with at 10.49m, while Barrett and Fortin rounded out the top 5 with jumps of 10.38 and 9.82m.
 
Rose also led UR in both the shot put (10.57m, 12th), and the weight throw (12.28m, 11th), wrapping up the day with a pair of Top-15 finishes.
 
Rochester next competes in the Nazareth College Conference Challenge Cup on Saturday, Jan. 28 in Pittsford, NY, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
