STATEN ISLAND, NY – Senior
Susan Bansbach sprinted to a win in leading the University of Rochester women's track and field team at the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday evening at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Bansbach's time was 56.54 seconds, moving her up to #7 on the NCAA Division III performance list this season and was one of five UR finishes in the top-10 on Friday. She added a regional qualifying performance in the event and was first among 86 runners in the field.
Joining Bansbach in the 400 meters was sophomore
Megan Bell who ended 18th in 59.24 seconds, also earning an Atlantic Regional qualifying mark.
Distance runner
Sennett Turner ended as runner-up and was the top-D3 finisher in the 5000 meters, clocking in with a time of 18:06.08, earning a regional qualifying performance. Teammates
Kat Benninger (18:56.38) and
Alicia Lawson (18:57.38) were 10th and 11th, respectively.
Junior
Kate Isaac kept her strong season going, finishing in 10th of over 100 runners in the 200 meters. Isaac clocked in with a time of 25.77 seconds, cracking the Division III top-50 times and booking a spot to regionals.
Kristin Hardy and
Ashley Heffernan also picked up solid finishes in the race, running sub-28 second times.
Senior
Gillian Reeder had a big toss of 14.98 meters in the weight throw, earning a spot at the Atlantic Regionals. She finished ninth of over 60 competitors.
Reeder was one of five top-10 performers for UR.
During the 800 meters, both
Carissa Minarovich and
Sab Lin finished in the top half of the 83 runner field. Minarovich was 28th in 2:25.19, while Lin clocked in with a time of 2:27.93, good for 38th.
UR's triple jumpers all cleared the 10-meter mark in that event, and were led by
Alyssa Hoogs in 19th place (10.47 meters).
Ashleigh Barrett ended 21st (10.39 meters) with
Cora Rose (10.25 meters) and
Zoe Fortin (10.17 meters) ranking 25th and 26th in the event.
Hoogs also finished 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 5.01 meters, while Rose tossed the shot 10.55 meters, ending in 20th place.
Rochester also sent several individuals to compete at the RIT Friday Night Invitational locally, with several top-10 performance coming from that group.
Jael Ernest Fleurant finished third of 40 runners in the 200 meters, posting a time of 28.02 seconds, with teammate
Maya Hatch racing to a ninth place result (28.51 seconds).
Meredith Crockett led two top-10 finishers in the 800 meters, ending seventh in 2:35.02.
Kendra Watson finished behind her in tenth, crossing the finish in 2:36.24.
During the 400 meters,
Isabella Doty was ninth in 1:07.74.
Iva Savic recorded two top-10's, coming in the 60 meter hurdles (10.48 seconds) and the high jump (1.37 meters).
Most of the UR contingent will return home, with the 4x400 meter relay team of Bansbach, Hardy, Isaac and Bell running in the prestigious Millrose Games at the Armory in New York City on Saturday afternoon.
The next full squad meet for UR will be the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on February 17.
