SELINSGROVE, PA – For the second time this season, the University of Rochester women's track and field team ended in second place at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships.
Earlier this year, the Yellowjackets earned runner-up honors for the indoor championships. On Thursday at Susquehanna University, Rochester again was second among 47 teams that scored a point at the outdoor track and field competition. Overall, UR finished the competition with 67 team points, over 20 clear of third place.
The Yellowjackets enjoyed another terrific day, backing up a strong day one, with a pair of event wins, several personal-best marks and two top-30 NCAA Division III times.
Sophomore
Megan Bell earned an event win during the 800 meters, crossing the finish in a personal-best time of 2:12.27, setting a new AARTFC outdoor meet record. The time now ranks Bell in the top-25 on the Division III performance list this season.
Rochester's other win came from senior
Susan Bansbach in the 400 meters. Bansbach crossed the finish in 56.09 seconds, establishing a new facility record at Doug Arthur Stadium at Susquehanna. Classmate
Kristin Hardy kept her strong senior season going with a third place result, setting a new PR in the event with a 56.69 second time, moving up to #27 in the Division III rankings.
UR picked up more team points from a pair of seniors in field events.
Gillian Reeder finished seventh in the hammer throw with a personal-record mark of 49.11 meters.
Alyssa Hoogs ended eighth in the triple jump with an 11.20 meter leap. Joining Reeder in the hammer throw competition was first-year
Livia Ilasz who ranked 16th with a 43.66 meter toss.
Deziree Garrick tied her career-best distance in the shot put with a 12.14 meter throw, ending in 12th place during that competition.
Cora Rose also finished in the top-20, ending 19th after an 11.61 meter mark.
During the 200 meters, junior
Kate Isaac sprinted to a 25.93 second time, placing 14th.
Senior
Iva Savic closed out her Yellowjacket career in the heptathlon, ending 11th with a two-day score of 3,551 points. She recorded a 4.69 meter jump in the long jump, was third and posted a mark of 29.78 meters in the javelin and ran to a time of 2:45.94 in the 800 meters.
Rochester individuals highly ranked on the Division III performance list now will await word on if they have qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, taking place at St. John Fisher University next weekend. The qualifiers for that event are set to be released on NCAA.com on Friday evening.
