GANANDA, NY – The University of Rochester's A and B squads hold down the top two spots on the team leaderboard after 36 holes and day one of play at the St. John Fisher Invitational at Blue Heron Hills Golf Club.
Rochester's 'A' squad fired a pair of 291 scores, shooting 7-over par in each round to pace the field by 14 shots. The Yellowjackets 'B' squad sits second at 596, while St. John Fisher is third at 601. Overall, eight teams make up the field which is the season-opening event for Rochester.
UR's
Brendan Frain and
Tom Liu, both members of the 'A' squad currently share the 36-hole individual lead at 139 (3-under). Frain posted rounds of 69 and 70, while Liu shot 72 in the first round before carding a tournament low 4-under round in the afternoon on Sunday.
The Blue Heron Hills layout is a par-71 and measures 6,601 yards.
First-year
Shibo Wang, a member of the UR 'B' lineup is the only other player under par after day one, shooting 1-under after rounds of 70 and 71. Classmate and 'B' team member
Arjun Aujla sits in the top five as well, carding rounds of 73 and 74 for a 147 total on Sunday.
Kerry Wang and
Josh Pethel are both inside the top-10, rounding out UR's 'A' team scoring. Wang had a 152 (78-74) on day one, while Pethel is one stroke behind after rounds of 73 and 80.
Other Yellowjackets on the 'B' squad were
Jeffrey Li (12th, 154),
Gary Pan (T13th, 155) and
Marshall Kim (T18th, 158)
Jonathan Zou was UR's fifth golfer on the 'A' team and shot rounds of 77 and 82 to rank tied for 20th after day one.
The 54-hole event wraps up play on Monday.
