WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – University of Rochester men's golf sits in a tie for first place with Trinity College (CT) following day one of the Williams College Fall Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club.
The 'Jackets and Bantams both shot 297, 13 strokes over par on the par 71, 6,808-yard course, leading a group of 22 teams and three individuals.
Brendan Frain posted UR's best score of the day, sitting in third place after shooting par. The graduate student came into the event seeded second and shot a plus-three on the front nine, but shot four birdies on the back nine to finish the day at par, just three strokes shy of the individual leader, Gustavus Adolphus' Jack Reinardy, who sits three under par at 68.
Behind Frain,
Tom Liu, UR's second-leading golfer, sits tied for 13th at a three-over-par 72. Like Frain, Liu sat above par after the front nine, but with a trio of birdies on the back nine, the senior cut three strokes off his final score with a two-under back nine.
Kerry Wang sits one stroke behind Liu, having shot a 75, four-over par, in the opening round, good for a tie for 20th place. While rounding out UR's five,
Arjun Aujla shot a 77, six over, good for a tie for 38th, and Thomas Wang is tied for 66th after shooting 80, nine over par.
Wang came out of the first round with a pair of birdies, shooting an even par on the front nine, while Wang hit a trio of birdies on the front nine.
Babson College (+14), Tufts University (+17), and Gustavus Adolphus (+18) round out the top five heading into the second and final day of the invite, while individually, Babson's Tomas Amaya sits one stroke (-2) behind Reinardy in second place, with Frain two strokes behind him in third at an even par.
Day two of the Williams College Fall Invitational gets started on Sunday, Sept. 17 with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
