WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Two golfers finished in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard as the University of Rochester golf team wrapped up play at the Williams Fall Invitational at Taconic Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate student
Brendan Frain placed in fifth, while senior
Tom Liu finished in a tie for seventh among the 113-golfer field. Frain carded a 2-over round of 73 on Sunday to end at 144 for the two days, while Liu finished two strokes behind at 146, shooting a 1-over 72 during the final round.
Rochester as a team carded a second round score of 303, closing the event at 600, ranking seventh of the 22 teams in the field. Babson College earned the team victory with a score of 582 through 36 holes, while Trinity College (CT) was second, ten strokes behind.
UR picked up some key wins over conference opponents though, defeating rivals Rensselaer (T-10th, 609), St. Lawrence (15th, 618) and Skidmore (T-16th, 622).
Two first-years,
Shibo Wang and
Arjun Aujla ended with scores of 79 in the final round, rounding out the Yellowjacket scorers. Aujla finished tied for 58th on the individual leaderboard, while Wang placed tied for 71st.
UR's fifth golfer on day two,
Kerry Wang, shot an 80 and finished in a tie for 49th place overall, ranking as the third highest Rochester finisher
Rochester now has a couple of weeks off before next competing at the Carnegie Mellon Tartan Invitational on October 9-10.
