BUFFALO, NY – Division I Canisius University topped the University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team by a 176-114 score on Saturday afternoon as Rochester opened up its dual match slate for the 2024-25 season.
In the matchup, Rochester picked up five event wins on the day, and had several other top-2 finishes, highlighting the day.
Bryce Berkhof,
Connor Kann and
Max McClung earned the swimming wins, while a pair of divers,
Max Wozinski and
Brendan Habert also earned wins for the Yellowjackets (0-1).
McClung ended the day with a win in the 200 backstroke (1:57.31), while also ranking second in the 100 backstroke (53.53) and third in the 100 butterfly (52.41).
Berkhof was the first to the wall in the 1000 freestyle, posting a time of 10:10.92. He also was UR's top finisher in the 500 freestyle later in the meet, ending third in that race at 4:57.22.
Swimming in his first collegiate meet, Kann won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.66. Additionally, he ended runner-up in the 200 backstroke to his teammate McClung, touching the wall in 2:01.48, earning Rochester the 1-2 finish.
In the diving events, Wozinski and Habert paired to post 1-2 finishes on both boards. On 1-meter, Wozinski won with a 195.60 score, with Habert right behind at 188.25. Habert flipped the script on the 3-meter board, scoring 197.30 to Wozinski's 194.45 for the win.
Rochester's top relay teams both finished in second place. Leading off the meet, McClung,

Eli Muldoon and
Michael Scholz finished in 1:35.33 during the 200 medley relay.
Closing things on the afternoon,
Tosan Obatoyinbo,
Jeremy Mah,
Ben Friedberg and Scholz were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.95.
Also ranking second on the day for Rochester were
Nate Attwell in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.14), Wong in the 100 breaststroke (58.29) and Scholtz in the 50 freestyle (21.90). Scholz added a third place finish in the 100 freestyle in 48.55 seconds.
First-year
Jack Zapp led the 'Jackets in three events, ranking third in the 200 butterfly (2:05.11), fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.05 and fourth in the 200 IM (2:01.61).
