The University of Rochester men's swimming & diving team celebrated its six seniors and earned six event wins in its Senior Day meet against Ithaca College, but fell to the Bombers, 181-119, on Saturday inside the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center.
Senior
Max McClung was the Yellowjackets' lone multi-winner on the day, winning the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke.
After helping URochester's 'A' relay to a second-place finish and 1:35.91 time alongside
Max Gjevre,
Demo Hong and
Ben Friedberg in the 200-yard medley relay, McClung topped the podium in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall first in 51.37 seconds, while Sebastain Gans came in third with a time of 53.72.
In the 200-yard backstroke, McClung swam a first-place time of 1:56.59, while in the 100-yard butterfly, McClung topped the field with a 50.35-second time, with
Jayden Proctor two spots behind in third place at 53.57 seconds.
Rochester added three more event wins on the day, two more of which were earned by seniors. Senior
Max Gjevre won the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall first in 1:00.72, while Friedberg took home first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.19 seconds.
Gjevre was also Rochester's top finisher in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing fourth (2.19.63), while senior
Brendan Habert led the 'Jackets in both diving events.
Habert took second in both the one-meter (218.50) and three-meter dive (232.05), with
Max Wozinski third on the podium on both boards with scores of 213.95 and 227.90.
Tyler Yeung scored Rochester's first, first-place tally of the afternoon in the 1,000-yard freestyle, narrowly edging teammate
Matthew Spence, who placed second. Yueng clocked in with a time of 10:08.69, while Spence came in at 10:09.48.
Spence also paced the Yellowjackets in the 400 IM, taking second with a time of 4:20.67.
Nate Attwell earned URochester's top finish in two of the other three freestyle events, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.18, and second in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:54.22.
In the 100-yard freestyle,
Connor Kann earned Rochester another second-place finish with a time of 48.37 seconds, one of 21 top-three results on the day for the Yellowjackets.
URochester would add two more top-three finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, where
Patrick Li and
Ryan Bowering finished second and third, respectively, with times of 2:02.90 and 2:03.52.
Rochester's 'A' and 'B' relays then wrapped up the dual with the 200-yard freestyle relay, taking second and fourth. UR's 'A' relay of Gans, Kann, Hong and Friedberg combined for a second-place time of 1:27.34, while
Brandon Weaver, Proctor,
Venden Berge and Attwell finished fourth, touching the wall in 1:30.26.
The Yellowjackets wrap up their dual-meet slate at 3-5 and next head to Chicago, IL for the 2025-26 University Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 11 and running through Saturday, Feb. 14.
