The University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team picked up its second and third wins of the season on Saturday, sweeping a tri-meet over Fredonia and Alfred University at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatics Center.
Rochester moves to 3-1 on the year following a pair of convincing wins. Rochester topped Alfred 186-106, while the Yellowjackets won 223-34 over Fredonia.
On the day, 12 different individuals won races for the 'Jackets, with six finishing with multiple wins. Overall, the Yellowjackets piled up 19 top-2 results. As a team, UR won 14 of the 16 events contested on Saturday.
Max McClung and
Michael Scholz were triple-winners for Rochester, with
Brian Wong,
Eli Muldoon,
Bryce Berkhof and
Connor Kann each winning twice.
To kick things off, Rochester's 200 medley relay started strong and touched the wall first with a time of 1:34.98. That team featured McClung, Wong, Muldoon and Scholz.
Jack Zapp followed with a convincing 17-second win in the 1000 freestyle, clocking in at 10:27.62.
In the 200 freestyle, Berkhof and
Nate Attwell went 1-2, finishing just three-tenths of a second apart. Berkhof won in 1:46.05, while Atwell finished in 1:46.35.
McClung and Kann followed suit in the 100 backstroke, ending in first and second. McClung's winning time was 51.67 seconds, while Kann ended at 54.01 seconds.
Wong made it five straight events with a Rochester winner in the 100 breaststroke, with the Rochester first-year posting a time of 57.80 seconds.
Scholz picked up his individual win in the 50 freestyle, sprinting two a 21.89-second time. Teammate
Ben Friedberg was runner-up, touching the wall in 22.19 seconds.
Rochester won the next three events, the 1-meter diving, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
Brendan Habert scored the best in the diving event, compiling a 6-dive score of 255.00 points. Kann won the freestyle in 47.83 seconds, with McClung continuing his strong day with a 1:55.52 swim in the backstroke.
Berkhof made it 2-for-2 in his freestyle individual swims, placing first in the 500-yard distance in 4:49.74.
Later on, Muldoon captured a win in the 100 butterfly (54.29 seconds) and Kann won the 200 IM (1:59.58).
On the 3-meter diving board, UR picked up another 1-2 finish, with
Max Wozinski earning the win over Habert in second. Wozinski scored 254.75 points, while Habert ended with a 236.95-point mark.
In the final event of the day, Rochester's 200 freestyle relay team of Attwell,
Jeremy Mah, Friedberg and Scholz won in 1:27.51.
