ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team opened its action at the 2024 Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Friday evening, competing in a pair of distance events and a team diving competition.
Through the three events contested, the Yellowjackets sit third in the team scoring with 182 points. Host Ithaca is first and Middlebury is second, with 273 points and 208 points, respectively.
The first event of the day was the 800 freestyle relay event, with UR's 'A' relay squad of
Max McClung,
Michael Scholz,
Bryce Berkhof and
Connor Kann finishing with a time of 6:52.72, ranking third in the field, scoring 54 points towards Rochester's total.
Rochester's 'B' relay was sixth overall in 7:01.56, scoring 48 points. That group consisted of
Jack Zapp,
Nate Attwell,
Noah Falkenhagen and
Jeremy Mah.
Up next was the 1650 freestyle individual competition, in which Berkhof was the lone Rochester swimmer, placing sixth overall with a time of 16:44.20.
The Yellowjackets ended the night competing in the diving 'relay' event, which featured
Max Wozinski and
Brendan Habert each taking three dives in a 6-dive scored event. The duo combined to earn a score of 236.15 points across three dives on both the 1-meter board and 3-meter board, ranking second to score 28 total points for the team.
Day two of action from Ithaca will feature preliminary swimming at 9 am, an afternoon diving session at 12:30 pm and a evening finals swimming session at 6 pm.
