JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The University of Rochester golf team finished off the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational in a tie for 23rd place among 30 of the best Division III golf programs this weekend at the King and Prince Golf Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club.
During Sunday's final day of competition, the Yellowjackets wrapped up their second round after play was suspended late on Saturday and the finished off the tournament with a complete third round.
Rochester's overall team score was 916 over the three days, shooting 302 in round two and a 312 in the final circuit.
In Saturday's round two, all five Yellowjacket golfers broke 80, as the team matched its overall score from Friday's first round. Senior

Brendan Frain each fired rounds of 78 on the par-71, 6,515-yard course layout.
Liu's second round featured a whopping six birdies on his card, including back-to-back under par holes twice, coming on holes 11 and 12 along with holes 16 and 17. Pethel had three birdies on his second round scorecard, while Frain and T. Wang each had two. K. Wang's round was steady, as he had 13 pars out of his 18 holes.
During Sunday's action, T. Wang was the top Yellowjacket, finishing at a 2-over score of 73. His card featured a UR-best four birdies, including three over holes 13 through 18. Overall, Wang finished in a tie for 61st place with a three-day total of 226.
UR's top golfer overall in the tournament was Liu who finished his tournament with a 78 in the final round. He added four more birdies to his tournament total, capping the event with 13 birdies, second most in the entire 150-player field. He was tied for 39th with a 223 score.
K. Wang matched Liu with a 78 during the Sunday round, with the highlights of his scorecard being a birdie on the par-5, 18th hole and an eagle on the par-5, fifth hole. Wang cracked the top-100 on the individual leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 98th with a 232 total score.
Pethel wrapped up his event with an 83 in round three, finishing at 235 for the tournament, ranking in a tie for 113th. Frain completed the Rochester lineup with his Sunday score of 87, ending the three days at 246 strokes.
Host Oglethorpe University managed to win the team event, shooting a combined team score of 870 over the three days. Carnegie Mellon wrapped up play in second with an 875 total and Guilford was third at 876.
The event is annually one of the toughest fields in Division III golf, with this weekends tournament featuring 15 teams, including #24 Rochester, who were ranked in the latest Division III coaches poll. That ranked team total included the top-7 teams in the country.
