‘Jackets in Third Follow Opening Day of Liberty Leagues

VERONA, NY – The University of Rochester men's golf team shot 296, eight over par, on the opening day of the 2024 Liberty League Men's Golf Championship and sits in third place following the day's action at the Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort.
 
Host Skidmore shot an even par, 288, to take the lead after the first day of competition, with St. Lawrence sitting in second place at 294, six over, and two shots ahead of UR in third.
 
Brendan Frain and Tom Liu led the Yellowjackets on the first day of the three-day competition, shooting 73, one over par. Both Frain and Liu are tied for fifth place individually, with three 'Jackets sitting in the top 10 with Shibo Wang tied for ninth and two over.
 
Frain tallied three birdies and four bogeys over his opening round, birding the par-hour first and 16th holes, as well as the par-five eighth hole. Liu notched two birdies, wrapping up the front nine with a birdie on the ninth hole, and opening the back nine with a birdie on the par-five 10th hole.
 
Shibo Wang notched a birdie late in his opening round, dropping to one over with his birdie on the 16th hole, a par four.
 
Also competing for Rochester, Gary Pan sits at +4 after the opening day of action, tied for 15th, while Kerry Wang sits at +5, tied for 20th.
 
Pan wrapped up his back nine with a pair of birdies on the 16th and 18th holes, sandwiching his lone double bogey of the day, while Kerry Wang notched four birdies, two on each of the front nine and back nine.
 
Individually, St. Lawrence's Sam Lyman sits alone in first place after one day of action at two-under par, with Skidmore's Evan Forrest and Tate Esler tied for second at one-under.
 
Day two of the 2024 Liberty League Men's Golf Championships gets underway at the Shenendoah Golf Club at noon, with UR teeing off beginning at 12:50 p.m.
