‘Jackets Lead Field on Day 2 at Hershey Cup

HERSHEY, PA – The University of Rochester golf fired a tournament-low round of 293 on day two, ending in second place in the team standings at the 2024 Hershey Cup.
 
Overall, the Yellowjackets vaulted up four spots on the team leaderboard after a 309 on Sunday, shooting a team score which matches its fourth-best round of the season on Monday. UR's two-day score was a cumulative 602, ending just three strokes back of the team champion Wittenberg who fired a 599.
 
Rounding out the top-five teams were Franklin & Marshall in third with a 605, Gettysburg in fourth at 611 and NYU and McDaniel wrapped up in a tie for fifth at 614.
 
Rochester's leading golfer for the tournament was Brendan Frain who finished in a tie for tenth place among the 87 golfers in the field. Frain shot a 1-over par round of 72 on Monday and closed the tournament with a 149 two-day total. Frain was strong on his back nine on Monday afternoon, shooting a combined 2-under over the final nine holes, recording two birdies and seven pars.
 
Senior Tom Liu shot a 3-over par round of 74 in the final round to end one shot behind Frain in a tie for 12th place overall. Liu's score of 150 also featured a 76 in the opening round. During Monday's action, Liu was even par on his outward nine and ended up with a total of two birdies on his scorecard.
 
Junior Gary Pan also shot a 74 on Monday and ended at 151 for the tournament, ranking tied for 17th. Pan's card in the final round also featured two birdies, coming on the fourth and ninth holes.
 
Kerry Wang ranks as Rochester's second best scorer on day two, shooting a 2-over 73. He recorded four birdies in round two, leading the team. Wang's round vaulted him up 19 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for 21st at 152.
 
UR's fifth golfer in the starting lineup was Shibo Wang who finished in a tie for 41st place at 157. He shot a 76 in round two. That overall score ended up tied with teammate Jonathan Zou who played in the event as an individual for the Yellowjackets. Zou shot his second straight round under 80, carding a 78 on Monday.
 
Also competing for UR was sophomore Josh Pethel who carded his second straight round of 80 to finish tied for 50th with a score of 160 for the tournament.
 
UR served as host of the annual event at Hershey Country Club East, with the course measuring as a par-71 and 6,500 yards.
 
Rochester's next event will be its only official home event of the season this coming Friday and Saturday. The annual Fred Kravetz Invitational will take place at Irondequoit Country Club and Oak Hill Country Club this weekend.
